CDC Director Thomas Frieden, MD, MPH, says washing patients with chlorhexidine-impregnated cloths and using an intranasal mupirocin ointment can help cut the rate of deadly infections from MRSA by nearly half. The recommendations come from a recent study by CDC researchers published in the New England Journal of Medicine.
